67The PSP
The PSP is an awesome little hand hand gaming device and can be spiced up and shown off to friends with the lastest add-ons and accessories. Most main concern for most people is protecting the device especialy the screen. This can easily be done in style with the various accessories that are available.
What makes the PSP so great is that is has graphics capability similar to the PS2 but only a fraction of its size allowing high quality gaming in the palm of your hand. Here in Japan I tend to see most people playing the Monster Hunter series especially on the train.
The Line up
1. PSP Super Travel Case with pockets
This case has a durable rubber shell and has two compartments inside, with a heavy duty bag clip. Two UMD disk can be held inside under flaps. The PSP itself is securly held inside with a fastening system. Apart from UMD disks other accessories can be stored inside such as head phones etc.
2. Anti Scratch guard
No PSP is safe without a simple to attach Anti Scratch guard for the screen.
3. Component AV Cable
The PSP displays quite an impressive picture on the TV and this can be achieve with a component cable. Use your PSP as a controller and play your games on the Big Screen.
4. PSP Crystal Case
Very popular in Japan. Maximum protection while still allowing full usebility. The UMD's can even be accessed without removing the case.
5. Attachable Sound Wave Speaker
For some users, sound is a very importand factor in gaming. When the head are not enough, the real speakers can be attached for that extra enjoyment in gaming.
Sony NGP (PSP 2)
Sony has annouced the NGP, Next Generation portable. It's supposidly a beat of a machine with a Quad-core ARM Corte-A9 Processor, 5 inch touch screen OLEM display with a resolution of 960 x 544, 3D, Wifi and GPS. It also has a rear mounted touch pad for extra controllability.
No longer will it use the UMB media. This time is will be a form of flash memory. With a brand new UI.
The question is, how will it live up against smart phones and the 3DS. Smart phones are getting more powerful all the time and some phone to date have similar specs to the NGP and games cost 1/10th of the price. Do people really want two touch sensitive decides to carry around all the time? One will be a smart phone in most cases with a vast array of games to download, some even for free and the other a dedicated gaming machine with more expensive games. I believe that it's down to the titles and what operating systems they claim first. For example monster hunter portable is a massive hit in Japan, and most people buy a PSP just to play this game. If the NGP can claim successfull titles such as Monster Hunter Portable then it may do well, otherwise it's going to in for a lot of competition.
The main positive thing is that is a proper controller for the real games, not just a touch screen which can make gaming difficult on smartphones.
